Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men and women in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society, so we need to detect it early.

Most people who are diagnosed with rectal cancer have a type called adenocarcinoma. There are other rarer tumor types too. These other types of rectal cancer may be treated differently than adenocarcinoma. Colon cancer begins in the last part of the digestive tract, also known as the colon. Rectal cancer begins in the rectum, the lower end of the large intestine. Together, they are referred to as colorectal cancers.
